My Research Activities
Kate leads a program of research focused on the experiences and support needs of families enrolling in new and emerging treatments for childhood cancer, and the training needs of health professionals tasked with its delivery. Her research includes several large-scale embedded psychosocial studies within the ZERO Childhood Cancer program (PRISM-Impact, ZERO2 Experiences) as well as other trials including PREDICT, SMOC-Jnr and Optimise. Kate's research is at the forefront of studies internationally exploring families’ and health professionals’ experiences of genomically guided diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer, and the intersection of these novel approaches and families’ communication and support needs. More recently Kate has expanded her research focus to include the psychosocial impact of novel and emerging treatments for other childhood illnesses, including genetic vision loss and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Through her role as the Academic Lead of the Luminesce Alliance Psychosocial Enabling Platform, Kate leads research capacity building initiatives aimed at ensuring the equitable, inclusive and psychologically safe delivery of paediatric precision medicine.
