Julia Lappin is an Associate Professor at the UNSW Discipline of Psychiatry and National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC). She is a Clinical Academic Senior Staff Specialist Psychiatrist at Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH), Sydney where she runs clinical trials into treatments that improve outcomes in people with neuropsychiatric difficulties. Her focus is to conduct clinically relevant research and she has successfully completed a number of clinical trials in South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) as part of multi-site projects, with several ongoing. She led the development of the NSW Tertiary Referral Service for Psychosis, a state-wide service for NSW and served as its inaugural Clinical Director for five years (2020-2025). Her current research focus is optimizing tailored strategies that support cognitive health from midlife, including in women across the menopause spectrum. At UNSW, she holds teaching leadership positions including Phase 3 Psychiatry Teaching Co-ordinator at POWH. She has a strong research output alongside her significant commitments as a clinician (0.4 FTE) and educator (0.2 FTE).
