Biography

Dr Luke Gemming is the Director of Teaching for the School of Health Sciences and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Luke is an accredited practising dietitian (Dietitians Australia). Dr Luke Gemming is the Director of Teaching for the School of Health Sciences and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Luke is an accredited practising dietitian (Dietitians Australia). Luke completed his dietetic training at the University of Wollongong in 2009 before commencing his PhD at the National Institute for Health Innovation (NIHI), University of Auckland. Luke’s main research interest is the use of technologies, specifically images, to improve methods of dietary assessment. Luke has range of other nutrition-related research experience and publications examining national nutrition surveys, nutritional composition and labelling of the Australian food supply, use of wearable cameras, examining eating behaviours, assessment of nutritional knowledge, and hospital food services. Luke also has interest in exercise science with publications in energy balance, dietary assessment for athletes, and validating wearable technologies to assess physical activity. Luke’s teaching journey began in 2008 as a tutor and has been lecturing within various nutrition, sports nutrition, public health nutrition and food service courses since 2011.
