Biography
A/Prof Ben Kwan is a respiratory and sleep physician at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney and also Co-Head of Respiratory & Sleep Medicine at The Sutherland Hospital, and Respiratory lead in Justice Health. He received his PhD (UNSW) in the field of ultrasound and upper airway physiology.

A/Prof Ben Kwan is a respiratory and sleep physician at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney and also Co-Head of Respiratory & Sleep Medicine at The Sutherland Hospital, and Respiratory lead in Justice Health. He received his PhD (UNSW) in the field of ultrasound and upper airway physiology.
He has a broad general respiratory and sleep practice including airway disease, respiratory failure, pulmonary embolism, sleep disorders and respiratory infection. He has a particular interest in Pleural diseases and thoracic ultrasound, as well as Indwelling tunnelled Pleural Catheter service for palliation of malignant pleural effusions. He is also experienced in performing interventional bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) procedures.
He is passionate about medical education and is a conjoint Associate Professor with UNSW. He has published in high impact international peer-reviewed journals and is currently collaborating in local and international research in pleural diseases, airway diseases, smoking cessations, sleep medicine and community based respiratory projects. He is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
