Dr. Ziyang Lyu is a Lecturer (tenure track assistant professor) in Statistics at the School of Mathematics and Statistics. Before that, he completed his Ph.D. in Statistics at the Australian National University in 2020. He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Queensland from 2020 to 2021 and at the University of New South Wales from 2021 to 2024.

His research focuses on asymptotic analysis,  mixed models with particular emphasis on crossed random effects,  and finite Gaussian mixture models. He is also deeply interested in machine learning and pattern recognition, especially semi-supervised learning, approached from a statistical perspective.
