Professor Marijka Batterham is an Accredited Statistician and Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian with extensive experience across nutrition, dietetics, and applied health research. Professor Marijka Batterham is an Accredited Statistician and Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian with extensive experience across nutrition, dietetics, and applied health research. She is the Discipline Lead for Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Innovation in the School of Health Sciences at UNSW Sydney.

Marijka’s research focuses on the design and analysis of complex health studies, including cluster and stepped wedge randomised trials, and longitudinal designs in nutrition and clinical research. Her methodological interests centre on improving statistical literacy and reproducible research practice across the health sciences. She is committed to bridging the gap between statistical theory and applied health research, equipping the next generation of practitioners with the skills to conduct transparent, reproducible, and impactful analyses.

She has led and collaborated on multidisciplinary projects spanning dietetics, obesity, and public health, with a particular emphasis on transparent and accessible data analysis using open-source software. Marijka is also active in statistics education, having presented nationally and internationally on teaching approaches that build data confidence and analytical capability among health professionals and students.

Professor Batterham is recognised for her leadership in data literacy, reproducible research, and the use of open-source software for health and nutrition applications.

My Research Activities

Professor Marijka Batterham is a multidisciplinary researcher whose expertise spans nutrition, dietetics, biostatistics, and data science. Her research focuses on the design and statistical analysis of nutrition and lifestyle interventions, with particular emphasis on obesity prevention and management, commercial and community weight-loss programs, and dietary pattern analysis. She has contributed to landmark trials evaluating dietary composition, behavioural interventions, and online weight-management platforms.

An Accredited Statistician and Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian, Professor Batterham applies advanced statistical methods to improve study design, data interpretation, and reproducibility in health research.
