Daniel Yu is Deputy Discipline Director and Lecturer in Computational Design in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture. His research and pedagogy focuses on advanced computational design workflows, particularly the integration of computational methodologies within application design for architectural and urban planning processes to improve design interfaces, efficiency, and perfomative outcomes. Daniel holds a Bachelor of Architectural Computing and a Master of Philosophy in Architecture from UNSW, where his research explored innovative methods of translating Slime Mould behaviour into parametric algorithms through the utilisation of artificial organic simulations and topographical analysis, informing sustainable and efficient urban transport infrastructure design. His previous research projects explore urban infrastructure and planning, environmental analysis and optimisation, performance architecture, biomimetic design, and sustainability. Daniel's research has also been incorporated within interdisciplinary projects, contributing to the development and refinement of computational tools and methods aimed at addressing emerging design challenges. Currently pursuing a PhD at UNSW, Daniel's research investigates the potential impacts of AI integrated applications within architectural and urban design. His study examines how the democratisation of expert knowledge and tools can enhance equitable participation, inclusivity, and accessibility, promoting community engagement and responsive urban environments.
