Dr Lewis Williams was the International Association of Contact Lens Educators’ (IACLE’s) Director of Educational Development, retiring at the end of 2019. He held various IACLE positions over almost 25 years.

Dr Lewis Williams was the International Association of Contact Lens Educators’ (IACLE’s) Director of Educational Development, retiring at the end of 2019. He held various IACLE positions over almost 25 years.
Lewis’ professional interests include contact lenses, optics, general and clinical photography, electronics, and the rôle of technology in education. Originally, he graduated as an optometrist from the Queensland Institute of Technology before serving time in the Royal Australian Army's Corps of Signals as a National Serviceman. He also holds Master of Optometry and PhD degrees from the School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS), University of New South Wales (UNSW). He was involved in all forms of contact lens education for more than 40 years and also spent some nine years in the Australian and New Zealand contact lens industries in various roles before joining IACLE. Currently, he is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in SOVS and has teamed up recently with Drs Phil Anderton and Steve Zantos to create an oral history about early optometric education in NSW starring Dr Jack Alexander, the last of the original Ultimo-based optometry academics.
