Esmat (Anna) Ghorbanpour is a research associate specializing in fusion energy. She joined the University of New South Wales in December 2024,  in partnership with HB11 Energy Holdings Pty Ltd through the Australian Research Council (ARC) program.

Anna obtained her Ph.D. in  2020 from the University of Guilan, Iran, and has taught undergraduates there. She also spent one year at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy, as a visiting researcher, conducting experimental research on a plasma device.

Anna’s research covers a wide range of topics in nuclear and laser-plasma physics, focusing on achieving breakthroughs in laser-driven fusion. Her current research focuses on the theory and analysis of Inertial Confinement Fusion, particularly the potential of proton-11Boron fusion, through the company’s links and collaborations with leading institutions worldwide.
